House of Representatives
Session of 2019 - 2020 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: September 29, 2020 12:41 PM
From: Representative Gerald J. Mullery
To: All House members
Subject: PPE for K-12 School Custodians/Sanitization Protocol

COVID-19 has placed us into an uncertain, new reality: a reality that demands continued protections and protocols be established for the overall health and safety of our students, teachers, and staff.

To meet this new reality head on, I am introducing legislation that will:

  • extend the Act 13 requirements to be applicable to the 2020-2021 school year, requiring that each school entity provides Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to custodial staff; and
  • establish a vigorous sanitation protocol, in compliance with CDC guidelines, requiring all public schools to guarantee that ever surface, desk, hallway, handrail, restroom, cafeteria, and bus are regularly sanitized to effectively reduce the risk of transmitting COVID-19.

Our teachers and school district staff are stepping up as front-line workers who should be protected and supported with the appropriate tools to ensure their safety as well as the safety of their students.

Please join me to make sure our school districts do not get left behind as we continue to navigate this pandemic.
