Subject: | Eliminating Fees and Penalties for Delayed Sales Tax Payments on Liquor |
As we continue to battle COVID-19, the regulations put in place to ensure the safety and security of our fellow Pennsylvanians have unfortunately taken a toll on local businesses, especially liquor licensees. Restaurants, bars, and taverns have graciously closed their doors for months to prevent the spread of coronavirus, leading to a loss in revenue and creating concerns regarding late payment fees and penalties on a number of things, including sales tax. My legislation aims to ease the burden for our liquor licensees by eliminating fees and penalties for delayed sales tax payments and allowing them a grace period for paying the 6% sales tax on liquor. In short, licensees would no longer be subject to additional fees and penalties as a result of late payments of sales tax during the COVID-19 emergency declaration. Many Pennsylvanians have worked diligently to protect our vulnerable populations and loved ones from the increasing threat of COVID-19. As we continue to feel the effects of this global pandemic, we must recognize the difficulties that local businesses, particularly liquor licensees, are facing as a result of doing their part to stop the spread. Please join me in co-sponsoring this essential legislation. |
