Subject: | Implications for Cities that Disband Police Departments |
In light of the misguided and unreasoned calls by a large group of dissenters to defund and disband police departments in this country, I am introducing legislation that will prohibit any city of this Commonwealth from using money received from the collection of any tax to pay for investigative, patrol or security services if that city disbands its police force. If the leaders of the cities of this Commonwealth determine that they are best serving their citizens by disbanding the police and that Americans can survive without the many services rendered by the police every day in this country, I do not believe they should be entitled to utilize tax payer monies to replace these police departments with private businesses that investigate, guard, patrol or protect persons or property. I further believe that this legislation will serve as a deterrent to these calls to disband the police and will prevent the ugly results that would undoubtedly stem from the absence of a police force. I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this important legislation to better protect our Commonwealth residents. |
