Subject: | COVID-19: Transparency in the General Assembly |
Since this pandemic first reached Pennsylvania, we have been urging and pleading with our fellow residents to take the necessary steps to mitigate not only their own risk, but the risk that their neighbors, family, and friends have been faced with each day. Surviving this pandemic requires each of us to accept the personal responsibility that has been placed on our shoulders – a responsibility that unfortunately has been neglected by too many. As the nation mourns more than 100,000 deaths and counting, we as legislators should be leading by example as the people we serve look to us for answers in this time of desperation and loss. It is clear that some of our own have shirked this responsibility, ignoring all levels of respect that should be paid to the health and safety of their colleagues and their families. That is why I am wasting no time in introducing legislation requiring that all legislators and their immediate staff within the General Assembly disclose a positive diagnosis of COVID-19. This essential action must be taken in order to ensure the transparency we are all demanding as we continue to respond to this national crisis. Please join me in pushing ahead with this emergency legislation to call for swift action in response to the recently uncovered news in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. |
Introduced as HB2822
