Subject: Co-Sponsorship: Establishing the Covid-19 Nonprofit Assistance Grant Program

Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, nonprofits across our great Commonwealth have been struggling financially, as have our fellow Pennsylvanians and small businesses. Considering the economic uncertainty and job losses as a direct result of Covid-19, many traditional revenue streams that nonprofits rely on for support have dried up. As fundraisers have been canceled, non-profits have had to reduce funding in the face of increased demands. The limited resources that nonprofits have had to rely on have become harder to come by and access to funding has become more competitive.

As such, in the coming days, I plan to introduce legislation that establishes the Covid-19 Nonprofit Assistance Grant Program. The purpose of the grant program will be to allocate $100,000,000 from the COVID-19 restricted receipts to the Department of Community and Economic Development for grants to 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations statewide.

The Commonwealth and her economy rely on nonprofit organizations. From cultural organizations that educate our residents, enrich our lives, and drive tourism and neighborhood growth, to social service organizations that connect families in need to resources, jobs, housing, and safety, nonprofits make our communities stable and our economy hum. Therefore, it is in the Commonwealth’s best interests to help nonprofits recover so they can help our communities recover.

With that said, I encourage each of my colleagues to strongly consider joining me by co-sponsoring this important legislation.
