Subject: | Impeachment of Joseph C. Gale, Montgomery County Commissioner, for misbehavior in office. |
On June 1, 2020, Montgomery County Commissioner Joseph C. Gale issued a press statement under the Seal of the County of Montgomery in which he, without coordination with his fellow commissioners, without proper authority, and without evidence, declared that the Black Lives Matter movement are “terrorists” seeking to “justify the lawless destruction of our cities and surrounding communities.” I will not repeat the full statement in this memo. It is reprehensible. It promotes racist conspiracy theories. It promotes violence in our community and endangers law enforcement officers. It disparages the County Seal. It falsely implies that his statements were an official statement of the Montgomery County government. And it demonstrates contempt for the constituents of Montgomery County that he has sworn to serve. Shortly, I will introduce a resolution calling for his impeachment. Join me in supporting this resolution, to make a clear statement that Joseph C. Gale’s behavior in office is unacceptable. Racist and unilateral declarations are not a legitimate use of county or commonwealth resources. |
