Subject: | Amending the Emergency Services Management Code |
I will soon be introducing legislation to flip the switch on extending disaster emergency declarations for future governors. Under this legislation, if a governor wants a disaster emergency to extend beyond 45 days, he will need explicit approval from the General Assembly via a concurrent resolution. Currently, a disaster emergency can last up to 90 days, but the governor can unilaterally extend and renew it. My bill will make a simple language change to Title 35, Section 7301(c) and is the first step in reclaiming our authority during disaster emergencies. Please join me by cosponsoring this important legislation. |
