Subject: | Student Loan Forgiveness Program for our front line, first responders - COVID-19 Pandemic |
In an effort to alleviate some of the financial burdens on those that are providing care and critical services to our community during the COVID-19 pandemic, I intend to introduce legislation that would establish a student loan forgiveness program to assist those on the front lines amidst this crisis. This loan forgiveness program would provide health care professionals, first responders, and individuals deemed life-sustaining workers the opportunity to apply for student loan forgiveness. For those professionals who no longer have student loan debt, this bill would also include language regarding a benefit transfer to a child or relative of an individual directly involved with the COVID-19 pandemic. By covering a portion of these, often overwhelming student loans, for this classification of workers, we will allow them the financial freedom to focus on their careers and combating the COVID-19 pandemic instead of their debt. While there is a great deal of uncertainty at this time, it is my intent that this loan forgiveness program can provide hope and financial security for those that are helping their community and Commonwealth every day. Please join me in support of this legislative initiative. |
