Subject: | Automatic mailing of Vote by Mail application for Elderly |
The Covid-19 epidemic has disrupted many different aspects of our daily lives in America. Unfortunately, even our election process has not been immune to this virus. Across the country, citizens are rightly afraid to take part in our most important duty as Americans; voting for who should represent them in all levels of government. Luckily, Pennsylvania recently enacted Act 77 allowing Pennsylvanians the ability to vote by mail thus allowing many of us to avoid the large crowds and lines associated with voting traditionally. However, this virus is most effecting our elderly population who are less likely to apply online for a vote by mail ballot. This makes it more likely for our most vulnerable population to place themselves in harm's way by voting in person on election day. My legislation will fix this dilemma by simply allowing the Department of State to use the SURE system to identify our elderly population of voters, ages 60 and over, and automatically mailing them a vote by mail application. This will help in efforts to reduce the spread of Covid-19 overall as well as ensuring that some of our population most vulnerable to this virus stays safely at home on election day. I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this life-saving legislation. |
