Subject: | Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Moraine State Park |
In the near future I will be offering a resolution commemorating Moraine State Park on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. Moraine State Park is the third largest and one of the most popular parks in the Pennsylvania state park system, attracting over one million visitors a year. Visitors can enjoy hiking, biking, cross country skiing, geocaching, horseback riding, fishing, boating, and pontoon boat tours on Lake Arthur. The park hosts an annual regatta that is very popular. The park's name, "Moraine," comes from its geological features resulting from the last Ice Age. Early in its history the land was used extensively for mining and resource extraction, until state and private agencies reclaimed and improved the property for public recreational use. The park was opened to the public 50 years ago on May 23,1970. |
