Subject: | Teen Health Week |
The teenage years are a critical period of growth, characterized by significant physical, emotional, and social transitions. While the health behaviors and habits established during this period play a pivotal role in an individual’s future health, their lack of experience and knowledge, combined with a propensity for risk-taking, leaves teens vulnerable to dangers such as addiction, sexually-transmitted diseases, suicidal behavior, traffic accidents, violence, and gang involvement. Although the teen years are a vulnerable life stage, the adolescent period presents an opportunity to positively influence the immediate and future health of teens. With nearly 2 million residents between the age of 10 and 19, it is imperative that we keep teenagers safe and encourage them to make smart decisions about their health. By recognizing the significance of teens for the growth and well-being of our state, “Teen Health Week” can support Pennsylvania teens in taking charge of their physical and mental health. Please consider supporting this opportunity in recognizing April 6-12, 2020, as “Teen Health Week” in Pennsylvania. |
