Subject: | Designating Feb. 24 – March 1, 2020 as “Eating Disorders Awareness Week” |
Given the current online culture of physical perfection, it is no surprise that body dysmorphia and eating disorders are still very prevalent in Pennsylvania, especially among our youth. Eating disorders take shape in different forms, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder and orthorexia. A lack of knowledge and resources and the presence of cultural stigma largely affects adolescents’ relationships with themselves and their subsequent treatment. Therefore, it is my plan to introduce a resolution designating February 24 - March 1, 2020, as “Eating Disorders Awareness Week,” in order to bring awareness towards a movement that prioritizes inclusivity, resources, and the collective experience of all those who suffer from eating disorders. It is our duty as public servants to do everything in our power to ensure the health and well-being of all Pennsylvanians, especially our most vulnerable loved ones. Please consider supporting this proposal that will directly impact and protect thousands of youth every day. If you have any questions, please contact my office at 717-783-8634. |
