Subject: | Limiting Insulin Costs to Consumers |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that would limit the out of pocket cost for insulin to no more than $150 per script. According to the American Diabetes Association, more than 30 million Americans have diabetes, and approximately 7.4 million of them must take insulin every day. The average list price of insulin has increased in recent years, nearly tripling between 2002 and 2013. As the price of insulin continues to rise, individuals with diabetes are often forced to choose between purchasing their medications or paying for other necessities. No individual should be without this life saving medication because they cannot afford it. Recently, Colorado became the first state to limit out of pocket costs for insulin. I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this important piece of legislation. |
