Subject: | Prohibiting the Sale of Alcohol on Election Day |
There is overwhelming evidence that alcohol consumption, even in moderate amounts, impairs cognitive function and could lead to excess alcohol intake. This behavior inevitably leads to poor decision-making and has no place in our election process. Furthermore, staff and patrons of businesses where the primary source of revenue is from alcohol sales, are presented with unnecessary barriers they must overcome in order to cast their vote. A solution to these problems would be to prohibit the sale of alcohol on Election Day. Therefore, I am proposing a resolution that urges municipalities in the Commonwealth to prohibit the sale of alcohol on Election Day, so that the sacred act of voting remains dignified and participation is increased. Ensuring that citizens are given the opportunity to clearly express their opinion through voting is a cornerstone of democratic governance. Please join me in promoting the respectability of our election process by ensuring that voter turnout is unencumbered by unnecessary barriers or forces. |
