Subject: | Jermyn Borough 150th Anniversary |
Jermyn Borough, located in Lackawanna County, has a rich history going as far back as the 1820s and 1830s, when the first settlers began to lay land claims. The borough was incorporated in 1870 and will celebrate the 150th anniversary of its founding on January 4, 2020. Jermyn Borough has a rich history including the origins of anthracite coal mining, powder mills, first aid, and surviving run-ins with the Molly Maguires, an Irish American secret society. With the residents of Jermyn Borough in mind, it is imperative that we take the time to foster greater discussion about its history, in addition to its role in a variety of industries that enriched the industrial backbone of this Commonwealth. As stewards of community and inclusion, it is my hope that you will join me in this collective effort to further promote and protect the history of Jermyn Borough, Pennsylvania. Your consideration is greatly appreciated. |
