Subject: | National Period Day |
More than 800 million people worldwide menstruate every day. It is a staggering statistic, and despite how common it is, menstruation is often spoken about in hushed tones, if brought up at all. Because of this taboo, so many are unaware of the existence of period poverty in our country. One in four people nationwide struggle to afford period products. Thankfully non-profits and advocacy groups like the Alliance for Period Supplies, Period, Inc., No More Secrets Mind Body Spirit Inc., and the Red Box Project are working to put an end to the stigma and make period products available to all women. With this in mind, and in order to bring awareness to this issue and the work being done by groups like these, I ask that you join me in co-sponsoring this legislation and recognize October 19, 2019 as “National Period Day” in Pennsylvania. |
