Subject: | Recognizing October 22, 2019 as Vincent Neil DiRenzo Day |
Very shortly, I will be introducing a resolution to designate Tuesday, October 22, 2019 as “Vincent Neil DiRenzo Day” in Pennsylvania. Vincent Neil DiRenzo joined the Central Intelligence Agency in 1956 as a photo interpreter examining the images taken by the U-2 planes. By 1962 DiRenzo was the leader of a photo interpreter team that through analysis of photographs from U-2 missions over Cuba, discovered and correctly identified that the Soviets had installed multiple missile systems on the island. The team’s discovery made it to the briefing room with President John Kennedy. DiRenzo retired from the CIA in 1984. In 2002 at the 40th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis, DiRenzo and his team were inducted in the Hall of Fame for National Imagery and Mapping Agency. Vince was a coworker, friend and mentor of mine when I had just graduated from college and entered the workforce. We always knew he had a background in the CIA and Marines, but we had no idea of his involvement in such an important national crisis. Please show your support by co-sponsoring this resolution. |
