Subject: | Hunger Action Month |
Many people face the difficult choice of paying a bill or feeding themselves and their families. In Pennsylvania alone, about 1.6 million people do not know where their next meal is coming from. Out of that number almost 438,000 are children. I plan on introducing a non-controversial resolution recognizing September 2019 as “Hunger Action Month” to focus the attention on the persistent problem of domestic hunger in the United States and Pennsylvania. According to a study published by Feeding America, in 2017 over 12% of Pennsylvanians Preschool and school-age children who experience severe hunger have higher levels of chronic illness, anxiety, depression and behavioral problems than children receiving a well-balanced diet and food insecure senior citizens have lower nutrient intakes which places one at risk of disability. I believe every citizen, business and government entity have a role to play in getting food to those in need. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. Thank you. |
