Subject: Distracted Driving (Prior HB 892)
 
I intend to reintroduce legislation regarding distracted drivers.

Using electronic devices, grooming products, eating and drinking, and reading printed material while operating a vehicle, can affect drivers and cause dangerous situations. This legislation will create an additional summary offense of distracted driving if a driver is also found to be driving carelessly. The fine for distracted driving will be $50.

This bill would also establish the Driver Distraction Awareness Fund. All fines will be deposited into that fund, and it shall be used solely for the fund’s educational program.
