Subject: Allowing for Ranked Choice Voting

Our democracy is broken. Low voter turnout, increasing polarization, and legislative gridlock undermine our government and stem from an outdated electoral system that promotes unfair representation, limited voter choice, and skewed primary elections. Fortunately, ranked choice voting (RCV) -- also known as instant run-offs -- offers us a solution.

RCV is a commonsense reform that enables voters to rank candidates by order of preference rather than simply choosing one candidate.

By doing so, RCV promotes majority support, discourages negative campaigning, provides more choices to voters, and encourages more reflective representation. In 2018, Maine became the first state to utilize RCV and has thus far seen its success. I would like us to experience the same success in our state.

That is why I am introducing legislation to allow for and implement RCV in Pennsylvania.

Join me in fixing our democracy by supporting this necessary reform of our electoral system.
