Subject: | Designating the Week of May 27-31, 2019 as "No Place for Hate Week" in Pennsylvania |
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) was founded in October 1913 to fight anti-Semitism and to “secure justice and fair treatment to all.” Now as one of the nation’s premier civil rights/human relations agencies, ADL continues the fight against anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry, defends democratic ideals and protects civil rights for all. The documented rise in anti-Semitism and all other forms of bigotry makes it clear that the efforts of the ADL remain relevant and crucial in our society. As part of those efforts, in 1999 the organization created the “No Place for Hate Program” as an outreach effort designed to provide schools and communities with an organizing framework for combating bias and hatred, leading to long-term solutions for creating and maintaining a positive climate. By reducing bias and increasing appreciation for diversity, “No Place for Hate” is an innovative and powerful method for sending a clear, unified message that all students have a place to belong. This crucial program is operational in hundreds of schools, organizations and communities throughout Pennsylvania. “No Place for Hate” continues to prove itself as an invaluable resource to communities across the Commonwealth. In recognition of the many accomplishments of “No Place for Hate”, I will be sponsoring a resolution designating the week of May 27-31, 2019, as “No Place for Hate Week” in Pennsylvania and commending the ADL for their over one hundred years of advocacy. I invite all members to co-sponsor this important legislation. |
