Subject: | Travel Bans and Hospital Supplies |
I will soon be introducing legislation to clarify that vehicles transporting hospital supplies can travel on highways during a declaration of disaster emergency. The recent travel restrictions implemented for commercial vehicles in the interest of public safety were certainly helpful in preventing accidents, but they did not specifically acknowledge the necessity of food, water, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, laundry, sanitary supplies, etc that hospitals need to properly care for patients. It is very important for vehicles transporting hospital supplies to get to the hospitals to ensure that our medical professionals are given what they need to properly care for their patients. Prohibiting travel of hospital supply trucks can cause a disruption in the goods and services necessary for quality health care to our citizens, and we do not need to add an additional burden to some of our most vulnerable citizens. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. |
