Subject: | Transfer of School Records |
This legislation is part of a package of eight charter school reform bills designed to treat all Pennsylvania public schools, traditional and charter schools, and their students equally under law. The legislation would require timely transfer of student records to another public school entity, including charter schools, or a nonpublic school. This would protect students and their families regardless of their choice of school. It is imperative that a student be provided with continuity of their education program and, for a school entity to evaluate the students’ needs and place them in the appropriate academic programs, a complete and accurate record of their academic and attendance records are necessary. My bill would ensure that a student’s records are transferred within 10 days from a request of a receiving school, and any unexcused absences would follow the student to the new school for monitoring and follow-up if necessary. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. |
