Subject:	Israel Independence Day

In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating May 14 as Israel Independence Day in Pennsylvania. On May 14, 1948, David Ben-Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister, read Israel’s Declaration of Independence. Later that same day, President Truman issued a statement recognizing of Israel’s provisional government. The Jewish people have endured a long history of invasion, oppression, dislocation, discrimination and genocide. Please join me in recognizing this important date in history and celebrating the Israeli sovereignty.
