Subject: | Provide the PA Game Commission (PGC) the Ability to Regulate Sunday Hunting on a Limited Basis |
In the near future I plan on introducing legislation to provide the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) the ability to regulate Sunday hunting on a limited basis. Specifically, my legislation would remove the current Sunday hunting restrictions from the statute and give PGC, at their option, the ability to institute Sunday hunting by regulation on no more than two Sundays during the rifle deer season and one Sunday during the rifle bear season. The legislation will include a three-year sunset provision on this authorization for limited Sunday hunting should the General Assembly not act to make Sunday hunting permanent. The legislation would not specifically set the seasons for deer and bear rifle seasons, rather it would allow PGC to authorize Sunday hunting in conjunction with those two seasons. I believe this is a reasonable compromise that increases the opportunity for hunters to get out in the woods during our two most popular hunting seasons, while limiting the impact of Sunday hunting on other stakeholders. I also believe that implementing Sunday hunting on this limited basis will allow the public, PGC and the General Assembly to assess the popularity and impacts of Sunday hunting. Please consider joining me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. Contact Chanin Zwing with any questions at 787-5270 or via e-mail at czwing@pahousegop.com. |
