Subject: Amending Chapter 19 of Medical Marijuana Act
 
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation which would amend chapter 19 of the Medical Marijuana Act. This chapter establishes the medical marijuana research program which would allow the Commonwealth to be an international leader in medical marijuana research.

During the over two years since the Act was implemented, we have seen the DOH reject the applications of medical marijuana researchers. Chapter 19 is presently limited to vertically integrated health systems. My amendment would allow health care medical marijuana organizations to participate in this research as well.

For an organization to qualify as a health care medical marijuana organization the entity must either currently be licensed, or have previously been licensed for marijuana research, under the United States marijuana patent. These small elite research organization could significantly speed up the research in the Commonwealth.
