MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 20, 2019 10:10 AM
From: Representative Michael H. Schlossberg
To: All House members
Subject: Enhancing Consumer Choice for our Aging Constituent

When the time comes for making the decision for a loved one to move to a personal care home, assisted living community or nursing home to get additional care or to feel safer with some extra support, they need all the information they possibly can to make the best possible decision they can. This goes beyond well-produced commercials and advertisements in local magazines all showing people seemingly having the time of their lives.

In this difficult and often stressful time, our seniors and their families need an unbiased source to look to show the strengths and weaknesses of each facility. That is why I am proposing that the surveys of personal care homes, assisted living facilities and nursing homes be made available for the public to view on the Department of Health’s website. This will allow people access to more information so that they can make a better choice.

These facilities become home to thousands of Pennsylvanians every year. Allowing them access to the best possible information before choosing their new home can prove invaluable. I ask for your support in co-sponsoring this legislation.
