Subject: | Conversion of Old Hotel Liquor Licenses (H Licenses) into Restaurant Liquor Licenses (R Licenses) |
Soon, I will be introducing legislation regarding the conversion of old hotel liquor licenses (H licenses), issued before 1949, into restaurant liquor licenses (R licenses). Under current liquor law, owners of H licenses issued before 1949 were allowed to eliminate the requirement that they maintain rooms but are not permitted to transfer their liquor license if they want to sell or get out of their current business. The H license is tied to the premise where it is located. Some of you may have constituents that have H licenses that they are unable to sell because the license cannot be separated from the specific location. My legislation will allow holders of H licenses the ability to convert their H license into an R license. It is estimated that 350 licenses would be eligible for this opportunity. As many of you may know, in some counties there is a stark lack of R licenses. My legislation will give people who want to convert their old H license an opportunity to unburden themselves of a liquor license they may not want, while providing a source of licenses to counties in need. Thank you in advance for consideration of my legislation. |
