Subject: | Attendance policies for Municipal Officials |
Colleagues, In the near future I plan on introducing legislation that will amend Title 53 to create a new provision that would establish an attendance policy for members of elected municipal governing boards. Across the state there have been many cases of elected officials refusing to attend regularly scheduled public meetings and preform the duties that they where elected to carry out. Therefore, my legislation proposes to implement an attendance threshold. If an elected member of the municipal governing body fails to attend more than 50% of the scheduled meetings in a calendar year the remaining members of the board can request the municipal solicitor begin proceedings to vacate the office. This legislation will provide a much needed tool to municipal governments to deal with elected officials that refuse to do the job that they were elected to preform. I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
