Subject: | Repurposing Unused State Property for Addiction Treatment and Recovery |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution directing the Joint State Government Commission to conduct a comprehensive review of unused properties, buildings and facilities owned by the Commonwealth and how to repurpose them for addiction treatment and recovery supports. Pennsylvania currently leads the nation in overdose deaths; and for survivors, there is a serious lack of capacity to offer them a full continuum of care to meet their needs for recovery. It is my intention that we make use of these various Commonwealth owned properties to address Substance Use Disorders at every level of care from the initial detox and treatment all the way to things like sober community centers for people in recovery. The Commission will have one year to issue a report on their findings. I intend to follow-up after that with any legislation that may be needed to implement these repurposing plans. Please consider joining me in co-sponsorship of this important study. |
