MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 13, 2019 11:59 AM
From: Representative Neal P. Goodman
To: All House members
Subject: New PA Game Commission District

Pennsylvania law divides the PA Game Commission's organization into eight separate regions, each governed by a commissioner. The Commission's eighth district consists of Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton, Philadelphia, and Schuylkill counties. It covers over 40 percent of the state's population. That's a big district with widely varying communities and needs, and it's nearly impossible to expect one commissioner to adequately represent it.

The rural to urban demographic of this region, in particular, is vastly different in terms of habitat management, topography, hunting access, harvest goals, and available wildlife. That is why I am introducing legislation to divide the current eighth district into two, establishing a new ninth district that would include Schuylkill, Berks, Lehigh, and Northampton Counties. The remaining counties would stay in the eighth district.

Dividing the district will provide hunters from both regions a commissioner who is geographically closer and more attuned with their issues. Please join me in sponsoring this important legislation.

Introduced as HB1317
