Subject: Health Care Coverage Contribution (Prior HB 1217)
 
As once again we are heading into a financially crunched budget, I feel it is important that we are willing to contribute our share towards the cost of our health care benefits.

Therefore, I am reintroducing House Bill 1217 from last session that would require Members to contribute 5 percent of the annual cost of their health care premium through monthly payroll deductions. The plan calls for a 3 percent increase in deductions each term for the next five terms. At the end of the fifth term, Members would be responsible for 20 percent of the cost of their health care premium. If a Member's current contribution of 1 percent of salary is greater than their percentage of premium, the contribution would be at the higher rate.
