MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 29, 2019 01:50 PM
From: Representative Mike Turzai
To: All House members
Subject: Land Purchase Legislation

I plan to introduce two pieces of legislation that would address a significant barrier that we have learned about regarding the acquisition of land by the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Currently, the Pennsylvania Game Commission is capped at a purchase price through the Game Fund of $400 per acre. In Allegheny County, this makes it incredibly difficult for the commission to strategically acquire land where the values are significantly higher. We want to ensure that access to land for sportsmen and women exists and to ensure that the commission has the ability to preserve greenspace, particularly in a populated area like Allegheny County.

Document #1

Introduced as HB752

Description: The first piece of legislation would remove the $400 per acre limit in Allegheny County and allow the commission to purchase land in the county to be used as game lands at a fair and reasonable price.

Document #2

Introduced as HB753

Description: The second piece of legislation would remove the $400 per acre limit statewide and allow the commission to purchase land to be used as game lands at a fair and reasonable price.
