Subject: | Cosponsor Memo - Designating "Tree of Heaven" a Noxious Weed |
Dear Colleagues - The Spotted Lanternfly poses perhaps the most serious risk to Pennsylvania agriculture since the devastation wrought by the Gypsy Moth in the 1970's. The Spotted Lanternfly is an invasive pest, and favors Ailanthus altissima, commonly known as Tree of Heaven, which is itself an invasive plant species. This legislation immediately adds the Tree of Heaven to the list of noxious weeds in Pennsylvania. If we are to seriously combat the spread of the Spotted Lanternfly, we must take immediate steps to root out and destroy their favorite food source. Your support of this proposal would be welcome. |
