Session of 2019 - 2020 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 28, 2019 11:15 AM
From: Representative Anthony M. DeLuca
To: All House members
Subject: Placing Controls on Veterans Memorial Marker Fees

On behalf of the families of deceased veterans, and by request of the Allegheny County Department of Veterans Services, I am suggesting we limit fees cemeteries can charge for foundations for markers commemorating deceased veterans. The ceiling should be $250.00.

The Second Class County Code currently has no limit on what cemeteries can charge for these foundations. Some cemeteries are charging prohibitively high fees and as a result families of veterans are being overcharged and in some instances veteran graves are not even being identified.

Simply stated, this is unfair to those who have served our country, and their survivors. In addition, $250.00 will more than adequately cover the costs associated with the foundation.

Last session this was HB 472.

I invite you to cosponsor in a show of support for our veteran families. Thank you.
