Subject: | Physical Education Participation in Schools |
Physical education for children serves as a direct link to good health for the rest of their lives and can prevent childhood obesity and many diseases like chronic heart disease, hypertension and diabetes. Students who participate in physical activities are able to build self-confidence and develop skills in cooperation, teamwork and sportsmanship.
My legislation would ensure that elementary school students (kindergarten through fifth grade) would participate in a minimum of 2.5 hours of physical education each week, while students in sixth through eighth grade would participate in at least 3.75 hours of physical education instruction each week.
Please join me in providing our children with a vital form of education that can lead to improved health and physical fitness. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
