MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 8, 2019 09:34 AM
From: Representative Seth M. Grove
To: All House members
Subject: Childhood Immunizations

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to build on the success of Act 8 of 2015 which allowed pharmacists to administer flu shots to children ages nine and older with parental consent. As a result of this legislation many Pennsylvanians were able to receive greater access to flu immunizations with over 9,000 new access points.

Under this legislation, using the framework of Act 8 of 2015, pharmacists would be allowed to administer any immunization shot to a child ages nine and older if the child’s parent has consented. Additionally, this legislation will allow pharmacists who are licensed to administer immunizations in Pennsylvania by accepting their licensed credentials from any state in the country. These practices are not only common throughout the United States, but will assist pharmacies with hiring qualified pharmacists from out-of-state.

Pennsylvanians, as a result of this legislation, would see the benefits they saw under Act 8 extend beyond flu shots to cover all immunizations. These benefits range from improved access to healthcare to greater convenience for Pennsylvanian consumers looking to receive a particular immunization.

Please join me and co-sponsor this legislation to improve healthcare access and convenience for Pennsylvanians. Should you have any questions please contact Jordan Grant by phone 717-767-3947 or by email at Jgrant@pahousegop.com
