MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 4, 2019 10:37 AM
From: Representative Paul Schemel
To: All House members
Subject: Updating the Sheriff’s Fee Act

In the near future, I plan to reintroduce legislation (Prior HB 388) to modernize the fees in the Sheriff’s Fee Act. The Sheriff’s Fee Act of 1984 consolidated various fees that the Office of Sheriff had been collecting for actions in civil law requiring action by that Office. The Act was last revised in 1995 to increase the amount of money charged for these services and has not been upgraded since then.

This legislation will bring the fees collected to a modern day level and incorporate several fees that are currently in Title 18 (Crimes Code) and Act 2 (Sheriff and Deputy Sheriffs Education and Training Act). The Sheriff’s fees will be incorporated in a new section of Title 42 which will make access to these figures easier to find and understand.

Please join me in cosponsoring this legislation.
