Subject: | Limiting a Legislator’s Outside Income |
As a full-time legislature being paid for full-time service, influences and time demands from outside employment do nothing to further our mission of serving our constituents. I am introducing a bill to amend The Public Official Compensation Law to limit the salary members of the General Assembly may receive for services rendered outside of their duties as a legislator. No member of the General Assembly would be allowed to receive more than 35% of their salary and allowances received as a member of the General Assembly for services rendered from outside employment. After meeting with members of the Government Reform Caucus, the language was drafted to clearly specify the type of income being limited to salary for services rendered outside the base salary and allowances of a member of the General Assembly. Last session this was HB 948. Please join me in supporting this legislation. |
