MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 27, 2018 03:28 PM
From: Representative P. Michael Sturla
To: All House members
Subject: Barber Services for Charitable Purposes

Haircutting services are a luxury many of us take for granted, but that many working families struggle to afford. Recognizing a need to give back, many of our esteemed, licensed cosmetologists attend charitable events, giving free haircuts to those in need. However, unlike their cosmetologist colleagues, licensed barbers are prohibited by law from donating their services outside of their place of work.
Our licensed beauty professionals understand that struggling families should not have to choose between a meal and a haircut for their children, which is why I am introducing legislation that will enable those less fortunate to receive free haircuts from licensed barbers at charitable events.
It is commendable that so many of our professionally licensed barbers see the value in donating their skills to the people who need it most. Please join me in supporting our barbers by giving them the tools they need to give back to their communities.

Introduced as HB1390
