Subject:	Abolishing the Office of Lt. Governor

In the near future, I intend to reintroduce HB 1939 (2017-2018) legislation that will abolish the office of the Lieutenant Governor in Pennsylvania. The Lieutenant Governor has only a limited number of duties, which include serving as the President of the Senate and chairing the state’s Board of Pardons. In previous administrations, the Lieutenant Governor’s office has been vacated and filled without incident by the President Pro Tempore of the Senate. Eliminating the office of the Lieutenant Governor will allow the Commonwealth to realize significant annual savings. In the current economic climate, it is prudent to make state government as efficient as possible, which includes cutting unnecessary expenses. I believe that Pennsylvania can function effectively without the office, and that eliminating the office is a sensible step to protect taxpayer dollars. Please join me in cosponsoring this important legislation to abolish the office of the Lieutenant Governor.
