Subject: | Resolution Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of D-Day |
I plan to introduce a House resolution commemorating the 75th Anniversary of D-Day, the courageous day when the Allies came together to storm the beaches of Normandy, France, in the effort to end the German occupation. “Operation Overlord” was a long time in the planning, coming to fruition on June 6, 1944. It was a well-coordinated attack performed by the combined forces of the Americans, British, Canadians, and French militaries. On this day, 10,500 soldiers died. Of this number, 1,456 Americans gave their lives to give France back to its people and to fight for the end of the regime of Nazi Germany. As we near the 75th anniversary of this day, please join me in honoring those who were a part of this courageous campaign. |
