MEMORANDUM

Subject: Landslide Insurance and Assistance Program

MEMORANDUM

DATE: August 1, 2018

TO: All House Members

FROM: Representative Anita Kulik

SUBJECT: Landslide Insurance and Assistance Program

Landslides are a significant geological hazard throughout Pennsylvania and have caused $12 million worth of damage to the city of Pittsburgh this year alone. Unfortunately, this type of disaster is typically not covered by most insurance policies and can leave many families with insurmountable financial and emotional damage.

As such, I plan to introduce legislation in the near future that would establish the Landslide Insurance and Assistance Program within the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency. This measure would be a companion bill to Senate Bill 1131 introduced by Senator Costa and intended to provide sound insurance coverage to homeowners, as well as assistance to local governments that wish to mitigate the risk of landslides within their communities.

Please join me by co-sponsoring this legislation and protecting all residents of landslide-prone areas in our Commonwealth against all current and future damage.

Thank you for your consideration.
