Subject: | Inspector General Reports Subject to Right-to-Know Law |
The Office of State Inspector General plays a vital role in the Commonwealth of exposing fraud, waste, and misconduct in executive agencies. When reports created by the Inspector General, however, are not released, and kept hidden from the public, this important role is unacceptably thwarted. The public has the right to the information in these reports about elected officials and public employees, particularly when taxpayers are funding the investigations exposing the misconduct. My legislation will amend the Administrative Code to make reports created by the Office subject to requests made under the Right-to-Know law, unless a report is referred to an appropriate prosecutorial agency and is a part of an ongoing criminal investigation or prosecution. Please join me in cosponsoring this important legislation promoting transparent and accountable government.
