Subject: | Commemorating the 74th Anniversary of D-Day |
Tomorrow, June 6, 2018, marks the 74th anniversary of D-Day. In commemoration of this historic day in 1944, I plan to offer a resolution on the House floor which will recognize the D-Day invasion and remember all those who sacrificed their lives for their country. On D-Day, more than 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily fortified French coastline to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. More than 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the invasion, and by the day’s end, the Allies had taken a foothold in Normandy. Sadly, more than 9,000 Allied soldiers were killed or wounded as more than 100,000 soldiers began the march across Europe to defeat Adolf Hitler. Please join me in remembering those lives that were tragically lost and this significant day in history which lead to the defeat of Nazi Germany. Your support is appreciated. |
