MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 10, 2018 03:10 PM
From: Representative Ryan A. Bizzarro
To: All House members
Subject: Recognizing November 2018 as “Childhood Brain Stem Glioma Awareness Month” and November 11, 2018, as “Jax Stone Day” in Pennsylvania

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution recognizing November 2018 as “Childhood Brain Stem Glioma Awareness Month” and November 11, 2018, as “Jax Stone Day” in Pennsylvania.

Brain stem glioma is a disease in which a tumor occurs on the brain stem and significantly impacts many vital life functions. This disease accounts for nearly 15% of all childhood brain tumors and often results in a poor prognosis due to the dangerous and limited treatment options. Far more research is needed to understand the cause of brain stem glioma and to effectively treat children, like Jax Stone, who have been diagnosed with the disease.

Born in Erie, Pennsylvania on November 11, 2004, Jax Stone was an exceptional young man who fought childhood brain stem glioma with courage and resilience. Despite his difficult diagnosis, Jax always displayed an incredible amount of compassion and kindness towards his family and community up until his passing in 2014. It is my hope that you will join me in honoring Jax’s incredible life and supporting all those affected by brain stem glioma by co-sponsoring this resolution.

Thank you for your consideration.
