|Amending PA Human Relations Act to Expand Protections for Workers
|Small businesses, and the employees that make that businesses successful, are at the heart of Pennsylvania’s economy. Yet, for too long, we have left these hardworking employees vulnerable. All employees should be protected from discrimination and harassment, regardless of the size of the employer or the type of work they perform.
Currently, under the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act (PHRA), an employer with fewer than four employees is not required to comply with PHRA requirements. I am seeking your support to change our law and ensure all employees are provided workplace protections. My bill will expand the types of employers covered under PHRA to include any employer with at least one employee. My proposal will also include some professions that are often taken advantage of or overlooked. Under these reforms, we will expand protections for our domestic workers, including nannies and housekeepers, and independent contractors.
Pennsylvania workers deserve the same workplace protections regardless of the size of their employer or the type of work they perform. Please join me in supporting this important legislation to expand protections for working women and men across the Commonwealth.
