MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 17, 2018 01:34 PM
From: Representative Cris Dush
To: All House members
Subject: Required Posting of the Preamble to Pennsylvania's Constitution at All Publicly Funded Schools

The recent school shootings and the Opioid Epidemic are symptoms of how our young people are no longer being taught that there is something higher, something greater than themselves. When they come to the realization that the world does not actually revolve around them, they are left looking to fill that hole in their heart.

The options pushed on our children today are usually found in an electronic device or chemical methods of escapism. The former desensitizes our youth toward inflicting violence against others and the latter leads to dependency and death.

Our founders knew they were not, and no one among us is, the center of the universe. They recognized The One Who Is in Pennsylvania's Constitution.

The Pennsylvania Constitution recognizes Him as The Ultimate Sovereign and The Author of all civil and religious liberties.

Our young minds should be encouraged to seek answers to where they fit into the grand scheme of things and help to divert themselves from the ever more prevalent destructive paths we are witnessing them taking.

For these reasons I will soon be introducing legislation requiring all institutions of education which receive funding from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to post the Preamble of the Pennsylvania Constitution in a prominent manner at the entrances to those institutions and of all buildings on the campus where instruction takes place.

Introduced as HB2278
