MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 12, 2018 03:45 PM
From: Representative Austin A. Davis
To: All House members
Subject: Co-Sponsorship – Career and Technical Education

In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to renew our commitment to strengthening career and technical education programs and help prepare our students and working families for high-skill careers.

Now more than ever, the success of our economy relies on a well-educated and skilled workforce. Greater levels of career and technical education and training will help rebuild the middle class and provide opportunities for wage growth and career advancement.

My legislation will provide $15 million to support the modernization of career and technical education through the establishment or enhancement of programs which prepare students for high-skill careers. This funding will allow employers, higher education institutions and labor organizations to establish public-private partnerships to train students for the technical skills required for many of today’s jobs. Students will have the opportunity to gain real-world experience by earning college credit and industrial credentials through work-based learning in high-demand, high growth occupations. This legislation will also provide $8 million for college and career counseling in middle and high schools in order to develop pathways for students to pursue such high-skill careers.

Please consider joining me in helping prepare our students to compete in a 21st Century economy by co-sponsoring this important legislation.
