In the near future, I will be introducing legislation which will allow for research animals to be adopted. The request for legislation was brought to my attention by one of my constituents and would enable retired animals who were used for certain research projects to be available for adoption upon completion of the studies. The language is based on legislation already passed in Minnesota, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Nevada and New York to give healthy dogs and cats a chance of finding a loving home when they are no longer needed for research.
